It was a normal Friday where I found myself hiding in some bushes with my telephoto lens.
MONTHS prior, Chris emailed me. He found me online, and saw that I had many proposals on my blog. He asked me to photograph his proposal to his lovely girlfriend, Melissa. She had no idea, and they were planning a Burlington trip to relax and explore the city.
They made the trip from Syracuse, and Chris and I had a hushed phone conversation as he was arriving to Burlington. "She probably won't notice you hiding, and I'll give you a signal before I get down on one knee." We went over where he would stand, HOW he should stand, and some ideas for how to get her to walk to the proposal location.
Since it was a sunny day at noon, I went ahead of time to find a shady spot. No such spot existed, but luckily Chris had remembered my advice about trying to block the sun from her face. And it worked!!
Melissa was dressed beautifully. Afterward, she said, "OH, that's why you made me wear this silk dress to the beach!!!" She cried as Chris proposed, and immediately hugged him and said yes.
Afterward, we stuck around the park to take some photos-- always a good idea, since the energy and emotion is running so high.
They were so sweet to photograph. They were gentle with each other, and willing to be silly in front of the camera.
I told them the truth: I feel so incredibly bonded to my proposal couples, because I get to witness the best day of their lives. It's a feeling unlike anything else.
Chris and Melissa, I wish you so much happiness in your engagement! Thank you so much for an AMAZING afternoon.
