Headshots with Jen (And Ru!)

(*Blog photos are not high resolution*)

Jen found me through Yelp a few weeks ago and called me with a great question: "Do you ever do pet photos?"

From dogs as ring bearers, to family portraits with cats (and a bunny, once), my answer was YES! I myself am a total cat person, and I foster kittens (you might have seen their photos on my Instagram or Facebook pages).

She said she wanted some photos with her and her adopted cat, Nuru. She was her companion and emotional support animal when she was in the Peace Corps in Tanzania. She was malnourished when she first met him, though looking at him now, you'd never tell he had anything other than this life.

Jen was NOT a cat person. Upon her arrival to the U.S., people were shocked. "My friends were like, 'What?! You got a cat?!" It really speaks to how bonds with animals work. That companionship and love can transcend species, and before you know it you're applying for a cat Visa.

Jen couldn't leave her behind when it was time for her to return to the US, and after a grueling experience on the plane, Nuru got a new life in Vermont on a huge property where she rules the roost. Her coat is sleek and shiny, and she and Jen adore each other.

Jen is writing a book about her experiences meeting several influential women while abroad. She says she'll never forget the lessons they taught her, and this book is a way of honoring them. She needed a few headshots for the book, and was hoping to feature her adorable travel cat Nuru in some of them.

Jen has the warmest smile. She was a joy to photograph and welcomed posing suggestions. She was able to display her personality through the headshots, and I absolutely love the results. She looks confident, intelligent, beautiful, and kind.

*Maybe you aren't penning a future best-seller, BUT it is so important to update your professional headshots every few years. It's also a great self-esteem boost.*

Jen, thank you SO much for a great experience! I feel inspired after our photoshoot by all of the work you've done and continue to do. Good luck with everything-- can't wait to read your book!
